Our Story
Southern SweetArt began many years ago when I was a single mom looking to purchase a cake for my oldest child’s second birthday. I went to purchase a cake from a local bakery, a very small cake with a simple design, and the price I was quoted seemed outrageous at the time. Due to limited time, I ended up purchasing a sheet cake from a grocery store bakery but decided the next go around I was giving it a try myself. I began making cakes for family and friends, on top of a full-time job, and eventually got to where I was keeping my weekends full with orders.
Fast forward about eight years and I was still working full-time in healthcare but with even more orders keeping my nights and weekends busy. I also had a second child and a third on the way. At this point, when considering how much additional I would be paying each month for a third child to receive childcare, I was faced with a decision: turn my kids over to someone else to watch every day while I worked and give them the majority of my paycheck to do so or become a stay-at-home mom and take a chance on baking full-time.
After making the change to stay-at-home mom and full-time baker, I quickly saw my calendar start to fill up and have stayed busy since. I have expanded my product line, as much as is allowed under Arkansas Cottage Laws being a home-based baker, to adapt to current trends. I offer a wide variety of products including wedding and party cakes, cupcakes, cake pops and cakesicles, decorated sugar cookies, pies, macarons, and more. I enjoy speaking with my customers, finding out about their interests, and working with them to create something beautiful and unique to celebrate their special occasions.
